Paul Burwell Scholarship
" Paul Burwell Memorial Scholarship"
An Award of $500
Sponsored by the Image Alberta Camera Club

Early this year, the images Alberta Camera Club approached the Burwell School with the idea to establish a scholarship and support emerging photographic talent in Alberta. The IACC https://www.imagesalberta.ca/ is a vibrant and active group of photographers and photo enthusiasts dedicated to creating images and sharing information. After some delays in the process due to shut downs in business, we are extremely please to announce the formation of the "Paul Burwell Memorial Scholarship"
Qualifications
In order to be eligible to receive the scholarship, a student must be either:
- currently enrolled as a diploma student at the Burwell School of Photography.
- have completed their diploma within the past 3 years.
- have completed a minimum of 5 classes at the Burwell School of Photography
In order to receive the scholarship, a student must submit an application and agree to give a presentation at an images Alberta Camera Club general meeting of between 30 and 60 minutes. The presentation must be photographic in nature or have a strong connection to photography. I request that the IACC write an outline or description of what is expected or required of the presentation. A final draft of this outline or description of what is expected or required of the presentation. A final draft of this outline will be included in the application process. A student will be required to apply for the scholarship in writing (accompanied by photographs supporting the application) by a specified deadline. The application will include ab outline of the proposed presentation to the IACC, supported by a selection of photographs.
Selection of the Winning Applicant
If only one qualified student applies for the scholarship, then the award shall be given by acclamation. If more than one student applies who is qualified for the award, then a selection committee of three persons shall be convened. The committee will be composed of one representative of the Burwell School of photography and two representatives of the Images Alberta Cameras club. A Winner shall be selected by majority vote after reviewing and discussing the merits of each application.
If you have the minimum course requirements, we strongly encourage you to apply for this award. The Burwell School will be very happy to offer you some guidance and assistance in preparing your application. We have all seen from the portfolio submissions that some of our recent graduates have submitted. Paul Burwell
Founder of the Burwell School of Photography
Paul was a professional photographer, writer, educator and enthusiastic naturalist with over twenty years experience working with and educating adults. In addition to being the founder of the Burwell School of Photography, he was contributing editor and regular columnist with Outdoor Photography Canada Magazine. Paul has been a finalist in the Veolia " Wildlife Photographer of the Year" worldwide competition in 2099,2010, and 2013 and was named a " Top Wildlife Shooter by popular Photography Magazine in 2010. Paul Burwell passed away suddenly from cancer in January 2016.
Some of Paul's most well know and widely published images were his ultra macro photographs of individual snowflakes.
